Patient Session at the 8th Theranostics World Congress (TWC)

Odile Jaume, CEO of the ICPO Foundation, and Rebecca Lo Bue, CEO of the Oncidium Foundation, moderated the interviews with the patients.

Two patients and two caregivers came together to share their experiences during the Patient Session entitled “Enhancing Global Access To Radioligand Therapy (RLT) For Everyone” at the 8th TWC in Cape Town, South Africa, on Jan 29, 2026.

Each panelist brought a deep personal perspective, as someone who has lived with cancer, as a family member or as an engaged healthcare professional. These patient journeys underscored the real-world impact of access and patient-centered care.

The session was also honored by the participation of Dr. Tebatso Tebeila from Universitas Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein, an accredited ICPO Clinical Theranostics Center in South Africa. Dr. Tebeila has worked tirelessly to expand access to Lu-177 PSMA therapy, pursuing every possible pathway through the RLT-Connect program from the Oncidium Foundation and ensuring that patients, who might otherwise not have access, can receive life-changing treatment.

Four clear and compelling messages highlighting both challenges and opportunities to improve cancer care worldwide were delivered out of this session:

1. Godfrey, South Africa: Personalized sequencing of treatments is essential to minimize the burden of multiple therapies for someone living with cancer
2. Tiphaine, France: Patient should be partners in their healthcare decisions
3. Alethia, South Africa: Quality of life must be a priority in both clinical trials and standard of care treatments
4. Dr. Tabatsu Tebeila, South Africa: Access to radioligand therapy in rural and underserved communities must be standardized and should not depend on patient-doctor relationships
