Michael Hofman

Professor Michael Hofman, a nuclear medicine physician, from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre featured as a 2025 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher, a recognition of the most influential research shaping the field. His led transformational research in prostate cancer including landmark investigator-led multi-centre trials contributing to global adoption of PSMA PET/CT, a new whole body cancer scan, and PSMA radioligand therapy, a new targeted treatment (ProPSMA and TheraP, Lancet 2020 and 2021). As Director of the Prostate Theranostics and Imaging Centre of Excellence (ProsTIC) he leads a vertically integrated program including radiopharmaceutical discovery science, clinical and biomarker research. He has over 350 publications, and has received multiple awards including the Society of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) 2024 Saul Hertz MD Award and 2018 Image of The Year Award, 2025 RACP Eric Susman Prize for the best contribution to knowledge of any branch of internal medicine. He has secured over $75 million in grant funding in the past decade. He is an editor for The Journal of Nuclear Medicine and European Urology, and enjoys teaching and mentoring the next-generation of researchers and nuclear medicine specialists.
