Furthermore, ICPO has decided to launch dedicated calls for applications, addressing cutting-edge research themes. This initiative will enable the Foundation to respond more effectively to rapidly changing research landscapes and strengthen its role in promoting excellent research. With the “AI Call for Application in Theranostics” launched in 2025, ICPO is committed to advancing the field of precision oncology through the strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Recognizing unique challenges in a wider clinical adoption of Theranostics, ICPO has structured a 3-year-call-series designed to systematically address and leverage AI-based enhancements in Theranostics. The ambition behind this initiative is to lay the foundations that will enable AI to become clinically meaningful, trustworthy, and ultimately beneficial for patient care in Theranostics. The first ICPO AI Research Grant was awarded to Prof. Lalith Kumar Shiyam Sundar from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany in January 2026 (link to NEWS article). The second research call will be published on this website in summer 2026.
The SAB plays a central role in the ICPO Research Grants process by selecting and evaluating research proposals submitted by scientists worldwide, but also a growing role in the ICPO Centers growth guidance as many new initiatives are being crafted and soon will be offered to Theranostics centers from the ICPO accredited network. The SAB interdisciplinary composition ensures that projects are reviewed by experts actively engaged in the respective research areas, enabling a robust and high quality methodology and clinical relevance, this through structured and transparent procedures as well as open scientific exchange.
